The Three Cities offer a fascinating insight into Malta and its history. Only recently has the potential of these cities been explored which has left them largely unvisited. In these cities you will see truly authentic Maltese life as well as enjoy a glimpse of Malta’s maritime fortune. The three cities are made up of Vittoriosa also known as Birgu, Senglea also known as Isla and Cospicua also known as Bormla.
The tour will start with a drive through of Cospicua which is the largest of the three and right opposite Valletta. The main attraction in Cospicua is the Collegiate Church of the Immaculate Conception, which is rich in exquisite works of art. The Firenzuola Fortifications, built in 1638, and Margherita Lines, make part of the inland defenses for Three Cities, are also of interest. The Margherita Lines are in fact the only part of old Cospicua which survived World War II.
Next you will visit Vittoriosa where you can walk through the narrow streets full of historic buildings and churches. At the tip of the peninsula on which Vittoriosa is built, is Fort St Angelo, which is perhaps the oldest fortification on the Islands. In Vittoriosa you will also find numerous Knights `auberges' (inns of residence), palaces and churches which are older than those in Valletta. From the quay you will take a harbor tour to see the famous creeks.
The last city to be visited on this tour is Senglea where you will admire beautiful the beautiful ‘vedette’ placed in the center of the Grand Harbour.
